Kelly Ormond
Ten years ago my parents signed me up for summer swim team at Fairlawn Swim and Tennis. Although I didn’t want to do it at the time, I can’t imagine what my life would be like if they wouldn’t have made that decision. I swam at FS&T for 9 years and have coached for 1 year. I started swimming year-round at FAST after my second summer at FS&T and have been doing so ever since. Last May I graduated from CVCA, where I swam for 4 years, qualifying for the state meet sophomore, junior, and senior year. I now swim for Wheaton College, where I’m studying to become a sports medicine physical therapist. I love working with kids, especially in this setting, because I get to share my love of swimming with them. I had so much fun coaching last summer and I look forward to another great season

I can remember since I was 3 or 4 years old, and my parents practically pushed me in the pool for swim lessons and then again for swim team when I was old enough. I always hated jumping in the freezing cold water in the morning and remember thinking I would quit as soon as possible. But, I stuck with swimming every summer and I came to realize I love the sport. After two years of football, I eventually joined the Hoban swim team for my junior and senior year, making it to Districts both years. Now I am still swimming at the University of Dayton where I swim for the club team. It is exciting to continue learning every single practice. Last year, I enjoyed getting to know all the swimmers and seeing their hard work pay off as times dropped throughout the season. I hope this season brings even more improvement while still being more fun for everyone involved.

I have been around a pool my whole life. In sixth grade I very tentatively joined FS&T’s swim team. I remember being taught by Rob Ihasz and Wendy Laria thinking to myself that I wanted to be exactly like them. I swam four years at Revere High School as well as swimming in the off-season with FAST. In my senior year I qualified for the state meet in Canton. I graduated in 2009 and now attend The Ohio State University majoring in Material Science and Engineering. I really cherish all the experiences and life lessons swimming has gave me over the years. Last year was my first year coaching at FS&T and was one of my favorite summers at FS&T. I enjoyed teaching and watching all of the kids improve and work so hard at a sport that has given me so much.
